86 When did Ellis Bridals first launch? Ellis Bridals was established in London in 1912 and was founded by Ada Ellis. The birth of Ellis Bridals came when on a bright January day in 1910 Ada herself walked down the aisle to marry Sam in the very first Ellis wedding gown. Her distinctive, elegant style struck a chord; word spread fast and Ellis Bridals was launched. Why do you think the brand has enjoyed such longevity? It’s down to its heritage, tradition, attention to detail and how we continue to progress with the modern bride. We work hard to maintain close relationships with our retailers, and pride ourselves on our wonderful customer services team. They always go above and beyond to provide a personal and supportive service. How did your sister brands, Kelsey Rose Brides and Bridesmaids, and mother of the bride and groom fashion John Charles, come about? Kelsey Rose was introduced to offer the more informal bride a choice of fun fashion-focused styles, along with the bridesmaid collection. John Charles started as an eveningwear range before evolving to mother of the bride and groom, which we are now best known for. Let’s talk about the John Charles line. How would you describe its signature style? John Charles is for modern women who wants timeless elegance with a fun fashion twist. We take time and care to source our fabrics – mainly from France and Italy. For the team – and the brand – working with beautiful fabrics is what inspires us. Why is the John Charles label so perfect for the mother of the bride and groom? We know how to make a statement tastefully. This is the moment a mother of the bride or groom wants to look chic, not frumpy, and we always make sure they look youthful. How often do you launch collections – and what are your best-selling designs? We show twice a year in January and July. Blush pink has traditionally always been a best-seller, however, this season we saw brighter hues take the lead. We show our collections in our showroom in London, as well as at Harrogate Fashion Week.
